Everyone makes mistakes and all of us fall short of the glory of Buddha. And by the laws of Karma, we will definitely pay the price for our actions. Oftentimes, we go through suffering that was not necessarily deserved or justified -- and it could be a result of karma. Hence, when you pray to Almighty Fudo Buddha, your negative karma is burned away and you become "purified" by the flames. Fudo Buddha is often accompanied by flames and we worship Fudo via fire ceremonies that can even be seen in the oldest Buddhist statues of Gandhara, 2000 years ago. Hence, either Almighty Fudo Buddha will deliver us from our problems, or use our problems to balance out our negative karma and purify us for enlightenment.
